Po'Jazz is an innovative partnership of poetry and jazz created by Golda Solomon, who has combined her two passions to create an energetic program featuring established and emerging poets sharing the stage with a small group of jazz musicians, blending the spoken word and improvised instrumentation. After a successful four year run at The Hudson Valley Writers' Center in Sleepy Hollow, New York, Po'Jazz is now at home at The Cornelia Street Cafe in Greenwich Village on the third Thursday of every month. Po'Jazz celebrates diversity by presenting poets and musicians of all ages, perspectives, and ethnic backgrounds. Featured poets have included Gha'il Rhodes Benjamin, Regie Cabico, R. Erica Doyle, Cave Canem Fellows, Billy Collins, Jacqui Johnson, Mariposa, Minnie Bruce Pratt, Patricia Smith, Barry Wallenstein, and Angelo Verga. Tom Aalfs, Kelvyn Bell, Uli Frost, Vijay Iyer, Ron Jackson, Tony Jefferson, Ingrid Jensen, JD Parran, Nicki Parrott, Karen Patterson, Bernard Purdie, Larry Ridley, Barbara Sfraga, Gary Smulyan, Melvyn Sparks, Christopher Dean Sullivan, Michael T.A. Thompson, and Nasheet Waits are among the many musicians who have graced the Po'Jazz stage. Check the JazzJaunts CALENDAR for more info on Po'Jazz performances.
